General Information

 

The village of Thermo Aitoloakarnanias lies 50km north of Naupaktos (which is just north-east from Patras across to the mainland), and  east of lake Trichonis.

Participants for the Summer School are expected to arrive on Sunday July 10, 2005 and depart on Saturday July 16, afternoon.

 

Accommodation for all participant will be in the hotel THERMIOS APOLLON, which is located 1.5km from the village of Thermos in a small hill.  It can also be reach on foot through a small path 800 meters long.           

 

Classes will start at 8:30 in the morning, there will be a small break at 10:30 where a snack will be offered, and will continue until approximately 13:30.  Afternoons will be free for lunch and rest.  Evening classes will start about 18:30 until 20:30.

A common dinner will be offered on Wednesday July 13.  The rest of the evenings participants are free to have dinner in the small tavernas of Thermo. 

 

Temperature in Thermo during July is not usually very high, due to the elevation.  In fact, we suggest to have a light jacket with you.  However, do not forget your swimming suit for the pool!  Finally, just for the case, get also an anti-mosquito spray.

 
 

Transportation to Thermo

 

  • From Athens

  • By car

Take the high-way to Korinthos and then drive to Patras (about 2.5 hrs).  Right after the toll in Rion, you follow the signs for Bridge to Agrinion (or Messologi) .  You pass the bridge to Antirion (10 euros) and then take the route for Naupaktos.  You will see signs for Thermos. 

 

Alternatively, you can take the regular ferry boat from Rion to Antirion which takes 15’ and costs 5 euros.The distance from Rion to Thermo is about 50km and takes 1.5 hours.  The road is a bit narrow.

Another choice is  to drive from Antirion to Agrinion and just before follow signs to Thermo. This is 100 km long, buts also takes 1.5 hours.  The route is more relaxing.

 

  • By bus

From the airport you take Express bus #X93 (see more information at the end) to the Regional Bus Station in Kifissos Avenue (KTEL) (about 45’). 

 

There are two alternatives for buses to Thermo: 

 

1.  Athens - Thermo direct (4.5-5 hours)  There are two direct buses per day,  at 08:00 and 15:00.  (Ticket price as of April 22.50 åuros).

Return from Thermo only at  08:00.

 

2.  Áthens – Agrinio - Thermo (more usual)

You take a bus to Agrinio (3 hours), and then change to a local bus for Thermo.

There are several buses (every one hour) from Athens to Agrinio

(06:00, 07:00, 08:00, …, 19:00, 20:00, 21:30).

 

Agrinio – Áthens  (04:00, 06:00, 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, …, 17:00, 18:30, 20:15, 22:00).

Agrinio – Thermo: 6:45, 12:00, 2:00, 19:30 (Saturdays and Sundays).

Thermo - Agrinio:  08:00, 13:00, 15:00, 20:10 (Saturdays and Sundays).

TO GET FROM THE ATHENS AIRPORT (ELEFTHERIOS VENISELOS) TO THE KIFISSOS BUS STATION Take Express bus #X93.  This bus runs every 20’ and takes 45’.  See also www.oasa.gr.

 

(If you  would like to go to the center of Athens, take Expess bus #X95, which goes to Syntagma Square. Alternativelly, you can take the Proastiakos metro train, which also takes you to Syntagma Square - www.proastiakos.gr).

 

  • From Patras

  • By car 

Drive along the Bridge to Antirion and then to Naupaktos.  Then see above information.

  • By bus (1.5 hour)

Patras – Agrinio: 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:00 (Saturdays and Sundays).

Take the regional bus to Ioannina which makes a stop to Agrinio, and then change to a local bus to Thermo.

 

Patras – Ioannina (Get off in Agrinio):  08:30, 12:00, 14:30, 17:30.

 

Thermo - Agrinio:  08:00, 13:00, 15:00, 20:10 (Saturdays and Sundays).

 

Agrinio – Thermo: 6:45, 12:00, 2:00, 19:30 (Saturdays and Sundays).
