The Department of Mathematics since its foundation in 1966 in Patras has been established as a centre of pioneering teaching and research, thus it provides high-level studies as well as an environment fit for the features of each student.

The Department plays a co-ordinating role in developmental initiatives for the benefit of the Region of Western Greece, communicating the constantly generated scientific knowledge and participating in a large number of European and international Educational and research programmes and consortia and in all major academic associations. Its forefront scientific research has been recognized internationally and continues to date, assisting its students in becoming remarkable scientists and researchers through its various scientific divisions
