Part-time Studies

Special Provisions – Reminders

  • Each semester of part-time study is counted as half a semester for the purposes of the total duration of studies (Law 4957/2022, Article 76, par. 3).
  • Students may not attend or be examined in more than half of the courses of the semester.

During the final year of studies before reaching the maximum duration of study (in particular, students admitted to five-year Undergraduate Study Programmes up to and including the academic year 2015-2016 are in the final year of the maximum duration of study during the academic year 2025-2026), an application for part-time study is accepted only if 75% of the required teaching and ECTS credits for completion of the programme of study have been completed.

Submission of an application for part-time study status

The application (DOWNLOAD IT HERE), accompanied by the required supporting documents, is submitted to the Department Secretariat, electronically or in person, as follows:

  1. First-year and transferred students: during their registration period with the Department.
  2. Students in the 2nd semester and above:
    • By 30 September for the winter semester.
    • By 28 February for the spring semester.

In exceptional cases of force majeure, late submission of an application is permitted. In such cases, part-time study status applies retroactively from the beginning of the current semester.

Eligible applicants

  1. Students who are demonstrably employed for at least 20 hours per week.
  2. Students with a certified disability and/or special educational needs.
  3. Students who are also athletes and, during their studies, belong to sports clubs registered in the electronic Register of Sports Clubs under Article 142 of Law 4714/2020 (Government Gazette A΄ 148), maintained by the General Secretariat of Sports, subject to the following conditions:
    1. For each year in which they achieve a ranking from 1st to 8th place in national championships in individual sports with the participation of at least twelve (12) athletes and eight (8) clubs, or compete in teams in the two (2) highest divisions of team sports, or participate as members of national teams in European championships, world championships or other international competitions under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
    2. They have participated at least once, during their studies in the programme for which they are applying for part-time study status, in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games or Deaflympics.
  4. Female students with a confirmed pregnancy (for the duration of the pregnancy and for up to 1 year after the date of childbirth).
  5. Parents with minor children up to 8 years of age.
  6. Students with chronic or serious health problems.

Required supporting documents by category

a) Employed students (at least 20 hours per week)

  • Copy of a project-based or employment contract.
  • Individual Social Insurance Account accompanied by a Solemn Declaration stating that the student continues to be employed.
  • Certificate of employment status.

b) Students with a certified disability or special educational needs

  • Unified Medical Certificate issued by a Disability Certification Centre (KE.P.A.) or an Assessment Report – Opinion issued by a Centre for Interdisciplinary Assessment, Counselling and Support for persons with special educational needs (KE.D.A.S.Y.).

c) Student athletes

ca)

  • Certificate or ministerial decision confirming the student’s registration, together with their distinction, in the special register of the General Secretariat of Sports referred to in par. 3 of Article 34 of Law 2725/1999, or a certificate of achievement issued by the relevant Federation.

cb)

  • Certificate issued by the Hellenic Olympic Committee (H.O.C.) confirming participation in the Olympic Games / Paralympic Games or Deaflympics.

All categories

  • Solemn Declaration notifying any change in circumstances.

Approval / Rejection Procedure

  • The Department examines applications falling under cases a), b) and ca) and approves or rejects them with a reasoned decision.
  • Applications falling under case cb) are forwarded to the Faculty Dean's Office, which issues the final decision.
  • The decisions are also communicated to the students concerned.
  • The certificates required under cases a) and ca) must be renewed every semester of the academic year.

A change of status during a semester is not permitted.
